Gomez / Ben Kweller
Where: The Showbox, Seattle, WA
When: February 15, 2007
Who: Gomez and Ben Kweller
Two of my favorite artists in recent years, Gomez and Ben Kweller played the Showbox Thursday night, and I was there.
BK was the last of The Bens for me to finally see live, and he didn’t disappoint. Playing as a tight three-piece, Kweller and his band performed songs mostly from his previous two albums, but there were some old gems and a great cover thrown in as well.
It was an solid show from a generally solid songwriter/performer, and I’d love to see him again play to a true BK crowd.

Unlike BK, I’d seen Gomez before. In fact, I saw them three times last year alone, and they got better with every show. My previous outing was the much-larger Moore Theatre, so to see them in the relatively intimate confines of the Showbox was a treat.
The highlight of the show for me was the set closing combo of Nick Drake’s “Black Eyed Dog” and the epic “Free to Run,” one of my top 3 Gomez songs.
